Premier Lai Ching-te today visited the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) to hear a report on the status of industry’s five greatest needs and the government’s response policies.

The premier said that the MOEA has a very broad portfolio, not limited to simply promoting economic development but also including many activities linked to people’s daily lives. Thus the MOEA was the first on his list of ministries to visit following his appointment as premier. Aside from meeting with MOEA head Shen Jong-chin and offering encouragement to the ministry’s staff, he also expressed hope that cooperation and hard work on promoting the economy will produce results that meet the public’s expectations.

Premier Lai recalled his explicit promise in his inaugural address to make his Cabinet one of pragmatic action, saying that the many problems facing economic development must be confronted honestly in order to draft realistic policies and achieve practical solutions. Highlighting the need to focus on solving problems rather than explain them, he expressed confidence that relevant issues can be resolved expeditiously.
