Legislative speaker pays respect to Bush

Washington, Dec. 5 (CNA) Legislative Speaker Su Jia-chyuan on Wednesday paid respect to late U.S. President George H.W. Bush. in the lying-in-state ceremony in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol on behalf of Taiwan's government.Americans have began saying goodbye to the 41st U.S. President who died on Nov. 30 at the age of 94 since Monday when his body arrived in Washington for public mourning.Under the soaring Capitol dome, office workers and tourists walked silently past a flag-draped casket that bore Bush's body.Su arrived in the Capitol Hill at 6:10 a.m., together with Taiwan's representative to the U.S. Stanley Kao, to pay tribute to Bush. They also attended the state funeral to be held later Wednesday at Washington National Cathedral.Speaking to media, Su said that the purpose of his trip was to pay respect to Bush because the people of Taiwan all feel sad about his passing.Su said he has delivered a letter of condolence for the Bush family from President Tsai Ing-wen to former U.S. President George W. Bush.
