Economics ministry to open new Invest Taiwan office in June

Taipei, May 14 (CNA) The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) will launch a new office in June to attract more foreign investments and foreign professionals to Taiwan.The Invest Taiwan office will incorporate other MOEA services such as its investment service center and Contact Taiwan website, a platform to recruit foreign professionals for work in Taiwan, according to a plan unveiled by the ministry last week.Chang Min-pin, head of the MOEA's Department of Investment Services, said the new office is part of the government's expedited efforts to bring more foreign investors to Taiwan.Under the Invest Taiwan office, the government will offer tailored services for foreign companies that are interested in coming to Taiwan and will help them recruit professionals, said Chang, who also carries the title of Investment Commission executive secretary.In fact, Chang said, prior to the opening of the new Invest Taiwan office, a three-part pilot program for the recruitment of foreign talent will be launched.Under the first part, called the Phoenix project, foreign investors in Taiwan will be offered services to help their foreign employees of research and development and finances as well as senior managers to secure work permits and residence permits in the country, he said.The second project, Morning Star, will facilitate government cooperation with prestigious schools such as National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Normal University and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology that have a relatively high percentage of foreign students, Chang said.The primary aim of the Morning Star project is to increase the supply of talent in Taiwan by helping foreign students secure jobs in the country after graduation from a Taiwan university, he said.The third aspect of the program, the Pilot Whale project, is aimed at building a talent pool for the local job market, Chang said.
