Taiwan FDI Statistics Summary Analysis (April 2019)

According to the statistics of Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 1,120 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$1,995,881,000 were approved from January to April 2019. This indicates an increase of 4.77% in the number of cases, but a decrease of 19.26 % in FDI amount compared with the same period of 2018.
With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 43 cases were approved with an amount of US$25,882,000 from January to April 2019. This indicates a decrease of 6.52% in the number of cases, and a decrease in the FDI amount (74.1%) compared with the same period of 2018. Aggregated from July 2009 to April 2019, 1,271 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$2,213,673,000.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except Mainland China), 202 projects were registered from January to April 2019 with a total amount of US$2,327,690,000 indicating an increase of 15.43% in the number of cases and an increase of 34.19 % in the amount as compared with the same period of 2018.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 193 applications have been approved from January to April 2019, indicating a decrease of 0.52 % compared with the same period of 2018. The approved investment amount is US$1,457,888,000, 45.52 % less than the same period in 2018.
