Members of the Cabinet, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu, Acting Tainan Mayor Lee Meng-yen, Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung, Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan, New Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan, Taipei Deputy Mayor Chen Chin-jun, ladies and gentlemen:

Today marks the first meeting since the Cabinet’s reorganization, and I’d like to start off by welcoming each member of the Cabinet. Together, we can forge a strong administrative team and build on the foundations laid by former Premier Lin Chuan to accelerate the nation’s progress. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Mayor Chen, Acting Mayor Lee, Mayor Lin, Mayor Cheng, Deputy Mayor Lee and Deputy Mayor Chen for taking time out of your busy schedules to join us today.

President Tsai at the September 5 press conference laid out her vision and expectations for the new administrative team. Her hope is that we strengthen overall planning of national development, and keep programs on schedule and within budget through effective management. In addition to accelerating efforts on major programs including the “five plus two” innovative industries, forward-looking infrastructure, energy transformation, long-term care and child care, we are to continue pushing tax reform and other reforms already underway. We must also improve the safety and welfare of workers, and maintain the manpower and flexibility required by industries undergoing economic restructuring.

These will be the priority areas for the administrative team moving forward. We will need everyone to execute effectively so that we can achieve results quickly and meet the public’s expectations.

At the handover ceremony earlier, I stated that the new Cabinet will be taking a pragmatic, no-nonsense approach to its work. I trust that members of the Cabinet, whether incumbent or new, feel a strong sense of mission to society and the nation. I am truly honored to work alongside you all and look forward to learning from your wisdom and experiences as we work together to serve the people of this nation.

We will not have a honeymoon period. Aside from ensuring a seamless transition, we must race against time. I have only one request of my administrative team: we must work closely as a united team and support one another, so that we can enact reform and promote infrastructure in a faster and more effective manner. Thank you everyone!
