Accreditation delivers confidence in construction and the built environment BSMI, MOEA June 13, 2017

To celebrate World Accreditation Day 2017, promote the correct concept of accreditation and highlight the importance of using the accreditation system to support construction and the built environment, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) held a World Accreditation Day 2017 Seminar on June 13 at the NTUH International Convention Center. In accordance with the theme of World Accreditation Day 2017-Accreditation: Delivering confidence in construction and the built environment- the seminar invited specialists and professionals from home and abroad to participate in case sharing events on the use of accreditation system to improve construction and the built environment. A total of 220 guests from relevant organizations, research institutes and civil engineering related laboratories accredited by Taiwan Accreditation Foundation attended the seminar. BSMI Director General Liou Ming-jong said at the opening speech that the quality of construction and the built environment not only affects the stability and safety of architecture, but also concerns life safety and sustainable living. He hopes that the seminar will encourage the application of accreditation and conformity assessment and enhance the confidence of competent authorities and all parties concerned toward construction and the built environment. Seven professionals from home and abroad, including Ms. Lucyna Olborska from the Polish Center for Accreditation (PCA), Ho Yu-Hsing, Head of the Department of Construction Management of Public Construction Commission, Executive Yuan and Huang Chih-Ming, Chief Engineer of of Kaohsiung City Government's Public Works Bureau, made speeches around four themes: "international accreditation experience sharing," "experience sharing on the connection between competent authorities and accreditation," "the value and contribution of accreditation and conformity assessment" and "new development on technology and standard". The insightful speeches helped the public understand the importance of accreditation to construction and the built environment. The BSMI said that construction and the built environment are issues of great concern today and accreditation plays an important role in reassuring the public's trust. By holding this seminar under the theme of World Accreditation Day 2017, Taiwan can better align its accreditation system with international practices. The event brings to attention the importance of Taiwan's accreditation system on construction and the built environment both domestically and internationally and contributes to the making of a quality living environment.
